DISASTER MANAGEMENT: Public Education on Disaster Prevention Programme

The programme was organized and implemented to provide education to the members of the various communities on the issues of climate change and disaster prevention and management. This is to help protect lives and properties in the various communities.
The facilitator informed the members to desist from the habit of settling near waterlogged areas which can easily cause flood. He said members shouldn’t rely on how cheap the plot of land is and shouldn’t be adamant about the consequences that can cause them. He said, consideration should be taken on the proximity of the land to water bodies.
He further sensitized them on how to control their electric gadgets in their various homes and workplaces to avert fire outbreak. The facilitator also educated the members on the causes of climate change and its related effects on the country’s development. He again introduced the members to some of the preliminary measures to forestall or control disaster whenever there is a case. The facilitator further educated the members on road safety mechanisms that when adhered to can help elevate if not reduce road accidents in the district. He said both drivers and riders should comply with the road signs and speed limits, the attitude of drunk-driving must be stopped. A total of 33 participants with 22 being males and 11 being females attended the program. A total of 2 people were physically challenged.
